Fishing - Objective or Excuse

Many men go fishing all their lives without knowing it is not fish they are after.” Henry David Thoreau

If one analyzes the real reason for the group, he will discover it is not the fishing, fishing is just a means to an end, with the end being relationships. To quote one of our founders, “If their intent is to catch a lot of fish, then perhaps they should not join.” While taking a backseat to friendships, fishing is the common thread that runs through the fabric of the Mixed Nuts. It binds us together and provides an objective (excuse) for gathering with our friends. The fishing skill levels in the group vary from novice to veteran.

While there is no initiation period, a subtle method of distinguishing tenure among the members can be found in the fashionable button worn proudly on every Mixed Nut’s hat. The button designates the number of trips a member has taken over the past years.

1 Trip Bait 10 Trips Keeper
3 Trips Perch 20 Trips Walleye
5 Trips Northern 36 Trips Trophy

The excitement of landing a nice walleye in the midst of friends, enjoying a tasty fish meal and later embellishing the size and heroic details of the catch enhances the joys of group fishing. . . it adds years to our lives and life to our years!
